As the lacquer tapping season draws to a close, the Niuwang Raw Lacquer Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall has launched an autumn experience camp offering a one-stop experience of hiking through the lacquer groves, observing lacquer tapping and hands-on lacquering, open for booking by members and study tour groups.
One-day itinerary
- Morning · Into the groves: follow lacquer farmers into the lacquer tree base, get to know the trees and learn about the tapping season and grove maintenance;
- Midday · Country lunch: enjoy local farmhouse cooking in Longtou Village;
- Afternoon · Observation and hands-on work: watch lacquer tapping on site, then complete a hands-on lacquering experience under the guidance of an inheritor;
- Evening · Exhibition hall visit: visit the Niuwang Raw Lacquer Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall and take home your own handmade piece.
Who it is for
The camp is open to Zhengdaming members, study tour groups, corporate team-building groups and culture enthusiasts. Children must be accompanied by a parent, and a minimum age of 8 is recommended. Group registrations can customize the itinerary and hands-on content.
How to book
The camp operates on a reservation basis, with a cap on each session to ensure the quality of the experience. Please book in advance through the customer service on our official website or by phone to confirm the date, number of participants and transfer arrangements. Temperatures in the mountains vary considerably between morning and evening; long sleeves, long trousers and non-slip shoes are recommended.
After the tapping season ends, the lacquer groves enter a period of maintenance. Autumn is the last window for going into the mountains to observe the work; miss it and you will have to wait another year.
